Wednesday
I’ve always had trouble sleeping for far back as I can remember, even as young kid, but I’ve also always had a pretty good internal alarm clock. If I need to wake up at a certain time I usually will. I know there isn’t any scientific backing for the phenomenon but it works for most of the time. Haven’t had to use it much recently but I did need to be up early(ish) today so I decided on waking up at 8AM. I set my phone alarm as back up, but sure enough I woke up at 7:59 AM sharp this morning.
I got an email about a job interview late yesterday so I called them back as soon as they were in the office and scheduled the interview the afternoon. Then I headed out to the first job fair, which was a bust. Second job fair I had to take some long and monotonous aptitude tests. I think I did well on them, but I started getting tired. Would have brought snacks if I knew it was going to be that extensive.
By the time I was done with that had a voicemail letting me know the job interview I had just scheduled earlier in the day was now cancelled because the position was filled. Would have then gone to the gym, but was feeling low energy so I grabbed a bite to eat and found the nearest movie theater. Life was starting right at that moment so I that’s what I went to see. Was actually an excellent and intense thriller. And a very taut and lean film, like the original Predator and Pitch Black films. Since my birthday was last week I even treated myself to paying extra to sit in one of those leather reclining seats.
I got the gym in time for the after-work rush and it was packed like sardines, so I just found the first open treadmill and did an 1hr 15min run/walk interval before my legs and my attention span crapped out. Didn’t have my headphones, so the workout felt much longer.
I still can’t help myself when I am at the gym to scan the crowd and see from behind someone on another machine with long sandy blonde hair in a bun and just for a moment I think it’s her. I loved going to the gym together. I would hop on a treadmill or bike with a line of sight so I could watch her from behind on the elliptical. She would go into the Women’s only area to do weights, and I’d use the nautilus machines in the main part of the gym. After a while she’d come walking by and give me a nod that she was headed to stretch and cool down.
Oh boy, the post is much longer and more pathetic than I had intended.
