"Just because your pain is understandable, doesn’t mean your behavior is acceptable."
— Steve Maraboli, Unapologetically You: Reflections on Life and the Human Experience
Was just driving home from running errands and was thinking long and hard about this quote. Have found that it speaks very much to the pain I caused my ex-wife by withholding parts of me that I was ashamed of. Whereas in most areas of my life and I am generally too hard on myself, but in a few very specific and complex areas I let myself off the hook for being dishonest. Thinking that the pain I was carrying somehow made it OK. It didn’t. And I’m living with the consequences of those choices.
